Mysteries
Stonehenge
is a mysterious group of huge standing stones. It was built about
5000 years ago. To built it they used two types of stone, the
“bluestones” and “Sarsen”.
The
mystery is: what was the purpose? Many people beleave that the stones
were placed in this way to look at the movement of the stars and the
sun and moon.
The
Celts
The
Celts lived in Britain around 600 BCE. They came from Central Europe
and we know about their from the objects which archaeologists have
found. We know about their for the “bog bodies” too. There are
areas of wet land, where kept a body if is buried.
A
warrior queen
In
55 BCE Julius Caesar invaded Britain. The Celts were great warriors
but the Romans win them. 100 years later ,Claudius sent another army
to Britain.
The
roman occupation
the
British city name ends in -Cester or -Caster or -Chester, it was
originally a Roman camp. In 122, the emperator Hadran visited Britain
and decided to build a wall across the north of England.
The
King Buried in a ship
In
410, the romans left Britain. When they left, the Anglo Saxons and
the Jutes invade Britain. In the 7th century a king was
burned at Sutton Hoo. In July 2009 another collection of o objects
was found in Stafford Shire.
The
Normans
In
1066, a duke from Normandy invaded England and the Normans built many
castles and cathedrals.
The
Middle Ages
In
these ages the king and the church had a great power. There was also
a fight for power between the kings and rich men in England. In 1348,
the Black Death came to England and killed nearly half of 5-6 million
people. Through out the Middle ages, there were important wars (The
“hundred years War” between England and France).
The
Tudors period
Henry
Tudor became the king Henry VII. His son have six wifes. He had two
daughters. Elisabeth's neigh was a golder age for England and there
were many famous writers.
